SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Air Quality Program Manager, the Air Quality Technician is responsible for program continuity of field sampling, maintaining log books, tabulating data, working with spreadsheets and all aspects of indoor air sampling and monitoring.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

· Develop an indoor air quality program for Lead

· Collect samples, prepare to ship samples and maintain National Atmospheric Deposition Program site when needed

· Indoor air quality assessments for community and special projects

· Radon scheduling, testing and shipping

· Burn permit inspection and education

· Sample collection.

· Collect samples of air, soil, water, and other materials for laboratory analysis

·Clearly label, track, and ensure the integrity of samples being transported to the laboratory

· Use equipment, such as microscopes, to evaluate and analyze samples for the presence of pollutants or other contaminants

· Prepare charts and reports (letters) that summarize test results

· Discuss test results and analyses with community residents

· Research product information, identify vendors or suppliers, or order materials or equipment to maintain inventory.

· Verify compliance with regulations that help prevent pollution

· Calibrate sampling equipment; maintain sampling records and reporting system.

· Develop 90-day work plans for achieving goals of the program

· Be able to perform and collect samples on weekends and holidays as requested

· Educate community and students throughout Akwesasne and surrounding areas on Environmental Issues.

· Be willing to travel (fly) during the workweek for trainings in other parts of the country.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

· Associates degree or higher in an environmental or natural science field.

· Background in air quality monitoring and operation of air monitoring equipment is an advantage but can teach.

· Ability to work without direct supervision. Good organizational and record keeping skills. Strong mathematical skills are necessary for processing data.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills including word, excel, and experience with varying databases.

Must be at least 18 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driver abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
