Position Description The Anoka County Emergency Communication Department's mission is to promote the safety and well-being of citizens by providing efficient and professional 911 dispatch services for all emergency and non-emergency calls and to provide technical management of the County's E-911 system and public safety radio system. The department has an immediate opening for a Senior Radio Technician who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include providing the technical operation and configuration of Anoka County's emergency communication system. The Senior Radio Technician is responsible for ensuring reliable communication to and from Anoka County's 911 Dispatch Center and the public safety departments in Anoka County and adjacent metro partners. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-siteposition. Advancement/professional development opportunities. Work Location This position will work at Emergency Communications Radio Shop, located at 13595 Hanson Blvd NW Andover, MN 55304. Schedule may vary based on business needs and at supervisor discretion. Employee is required for 24 hour on-call and call-out after hours, in the event of a system issue. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Senior Radio Technician. Monitor and maintain all ARMER public safety communications end-user equipment from phone and radio dispatch consoles to all subscriber radios within Anoka County. Review system usage reports to determine if usage patterns suggest inefficient operations or negative impact on other regional systems. Provide support for on-call technicians. Implement failure recovery protocols. Assist the Radio Systems Manager with developing and maintaining failure condition plans and conduct tests. Lead the preventative maintenance on the emergency communications infrastructure. Test and align communications infrastructure and network equipment at the 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and at Radio Towers to ensure reliable communications to the end-user. Act as a liaison to law enforcement agencies and fire departments in Anoka County fielding problems, concerns and communicating resolution. Guide employees on the appropriate use of radio systems and test equipment. Facilitate radio ID and alias assignments. Maintain inventory, documentation, manage software/firmware upgrades of system components and subscriber radios to ensure compatibility. Utilize and train staff on applicable test equipment for the purposes of maintaining subscriber fleet and ARMER system integrity. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentori g to a subordinate group. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program and at least 4 years of job-related experience In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis Successfully pass driver's license background check Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Radio Communications, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or related field Possess or be able to obtain within six months of hire a Motorola, FCC or ETA International specific to RF Communications (CET, GROL, etc.) certification Possess or be able to obtain within six months of hire a Network+ or CCNA certification Knowledge of computer-based network systems and equipment, i.e., 800 MHZ trunked radio simulcast system and mobile data terminal system, including computerized diagnostics and operational controls Knowledge of state and federal rules, regulations, codes and standards governing radio communications operations and installation Knowledge of the use, operation, calibration and maintenance of various electronic tools, diagnostic equipment and software Strong verbal and written communication skills Physical Demands and Work Conditions Emergency call center environment with periods of high stress and multi-tasking during emergency situations Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, twisting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
