American Institutes for Research Research Assistant Intern - Education Statistics (Bachelor's Students) in Arlington, Virginia

Overview

Join AIR as a Research Assistant Intern with ourEducation Statistics (https://www.air.org/our-work/education) team during our 2024 Virtual Summer Internship Program. Our team of experts works with states and districts to apply evidence-based strategies to design and develop policies and practices to create education systems centered on high-quality standards for all students. The intern can expect to work on projects centered elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education systems with a specific emphasis on math and financial literacy. Pr ojects may also include working with administrative data collection systems, which provide data on education equity in the PK-16 systems as well as museums and libraries.

AIR’s Standards and Assessment Internship allows participants to collaborate with AIR technical assistance experts and researchers on projects and deliverables aligned with PK-12 standards and assessments. Interns will have the opportunity to work directly with local, state, and federal clients on work related to PK-12 education research. Interns will also engage in various learning and networking events at AIR to expand their understanding of the work and build lasting professional connections.

The intern will be a part of AIR’s Education Statistics team, which is driven by our mission to make the world a better, more equitable place.

AIR’s 2024 Virtual Summer Internship Program is designed to identify, attract, and hire the best collegiate talent who will drive creativity and innovation while enabling the organization to create a diverse and skilled talent pool. Spanning 10 – 12 weeks, AIR’s paid summer program provides Interns with various learning and networking opportunities that enhance their skillset and build lasting professional connections.

Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of ourU.S. office locations. (https://www.air.org/locations#headquarters) This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Contribute to AIR’s Standards and Assessment Practice Hub work focused on guiding states’ and districts’ development or use of standards-aligned systems for math and financial literacy for PK-12.

  • Contribute to projects and deliverables focused on PK-12 math/financial literacy standards and assessments;

  • Support technical assistance experts and researchers’ projects and deliverables related to building and supporting states’ and districts’ capacity for standards-aligned teaching and learning;

  • Clearly communicate with clients, colleagues, and other internal and external audiences and represent AIR in a professional manner;

  • Support and promote cultural competencies and equitable approaches in PK-12 education research, projects and deliverables; and

  • Contribute to the implementation and integration of AIR’s diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in all business activities

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Must be a current student (for the duration of the internship) pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in such fields as education, math, economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science, public policy, or other social science related fields

  • Knowledge of federal or state/local policies, programs, and priorities related to math and financial literacy education is a plus but not required

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or the equivalent (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software)

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate efficiently in a virtual work environment

  • Comfortable working independently and as a member of a team with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all levels

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. International students who are studying at an accredited U.S. college or university under F1 visas are eligible to apply under Curricular Practical Training (CPT) stipulations.

This position offers $22.00 per hour. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the organization and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the salary for candidates that are based in the United States.
