Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Standardized survey data collection from patients and data uploads to the federal SPARS website

  • Data entry

  • Monitoring research related data reports

  • Weekly investigator meetings

  • Monthly network meetings

  • Periodic database revisions

  • Data Quality assurance

  • Collect, code, organize, and summarize data obtained from research in an accurate and timely manner

  • Maintain detailed records of studies to ensure compliance with requirements of study sponsors, study protocols, the Department of Emergency Medicine, hospital/clinical standard operating procedures, COMIRB and other regulatory guidelines.

  • Create data management and tracking tools (e.g., REDCap, ACCESS, Excel) to support data collection and tracking of project/recruitment activities.

  • Carry out straightforward data analysis (e.g., summary data, histograms) and have basic skills in interpretation of descriptive statistics.

  • Assists with the dissemination of research findings through editing, writing, citing references, and preparation of manuscripts and abstracts, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

  • 2 years of relevant experience in biomedical, public health, clinical, or allied health research experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interest or previous experience working in public health, clinical research or with electronic health records

  • Two (2) years of clinical or health related research experience, including data management or data quality control

  • Master's degree in a relevant biomedical, public health, clinical, or allied-health discipline.

  • Experience with and understanding of medical terminology

  • Experience in an emergency department or prehospital or inpatient setting

  • Two (2) years of clinical research or related experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including over the phone

  • Comfortable conducting patient interviews involving sensitive questions

  • Highly detail-oriented and organized in handling multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills

  • Ability to maintain security and confidentiality of medical records

  • Maintain research ethics certification

  • Self-starter with a desire to improve human health through research

  • Excellent team player and contributor to the larger goals of the research from an operational level

  • Experience working independently with indirect supervision

  • High Level Skills with Computer-Based Tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Etc.) as well as REDCap (creating forms, running reports, exporting datasets).

  • Capable of working remotely (if needed, due to the pandemic)

  • Familiarity with medical/research terminology, medical charts, and research regulatory requirements

  • Knowledge of research methodology and scientific method

  • Enjoys working with data relating to human subjects research

  • Candidates may be subject to an assessment of their skills and abilities as part of the interview process

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

The Research Services Intermediate Clinical Sciences Professional is responsible for routine research activities in support of clinical and epidemiological studies. This position will serve as a part of the research team in the Department of Emergency Medicine Opioid Research Program. This position requires familiarity and experience with clinical or epidemiological research, preferably in emergency care or substance use disorder. This position will exercise a modest degree of independence and work under moderate supervision of the PI and Program Manager to assist the team to conduct clinically relevant research. The job is predominantly in-person and duties will be performed in the U.S. from office buildings on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO and may include local travel to partner clinics within a 5 mile radius The successful candidate will be supervised by a physician-researcher and principal investigator, Dr. Jason Hoppe, DO. Funding support comes from project grants from both private and federal sources (e.g., US Department of Defense, Bureau of Justice Assistance, SAMHSA, National Institutes of Health). This research team focuses on studies related to appropriate use of opioids, safe opioid prescribing, pain management, and treatment of individuals with opioid use disorder to address the opioid epidemic. The candidate will be part of a highly collaborative and exciting team, and will be supervised by Dr. Hoppe, other faculty and staff co-investigators, and key stakeholders.

The Department of Emergency Medicine Opioid Research Program conducts research into areas such as opioid safety, pain management, the treatment of opioid use disorder, and the use of clinical decision support tools to deliver evidence-based practices.
