Zelis Director, Software Engineering in Boston, Massachusetts

Title: Director, Software Engineering

Duties: Lead a global delivery team with end-to-end accountability and responsibility for developing and maintaining new and innovative products to support the continued growth of Zelis. Ensure that best in class software development practices and procedures are used to develop products including (1) adherence to robust architectural patterns that support the dimensions of scalability, reliability, extensibility, and reuse and (2) application of coding standards that support the dimensions of quality, reliability, and optimized Total Cost of Ownership. Partner with Product and Payments Business Operations to clearly understand the Business Value advocated by Product Roadmaps and develop a supporting Technology Roadmap and Strategy. Develop an annual budget plan that delivers the Product Roadmap and associated business value. Develop a clear understanding of business needs, ensures cost-effective delivery of Technology services to meet those needs and respond with agility to changing business priorities. Collaborate with Vendor Partners to develop and execute against a resource plan that supports an annual budget in a cost-effective manner. Develop informed Product Delivery Schedules that serve as commitments to all internal and external stakeholders. Develop and implement best-in-class system development practices/methodologies in support of architecture, coding, and quality assurance. Lead a cross-functional development team in the timely and cost-effective delivery of best-in-class products that exceed the needs of the business and can meet future requirements with minimal investment. Maintain a dashboard of Key Performance Indicators tracking the efficacy of product delivery and the reliability of the supported production environment. Research and advocate innovative technology approaches that drive dramatic increases in business value, reductions in Time to Build, and Total Cost of Ownership. Provide proactive leadership, coaching, clarity of direction and career growth development to the Payments technology staff associates. Continually look for innovative and meaningful solutions to the recruitment, development, and retention of the technology workforce.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, or similar analytical discipline. Zelis will accept an educational equivalency prepared by a qualified credential evaluation service. Ten years’ progressively responsible application programming experience in a Microsoft environment developing applications in .NET/JAVA/SQL Server and designing and implementing Service Oriented Architecture(s). Five years’ leadership experience in on or more of the following: (1) organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects from vision through implementation, involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors; (2) developing and implementing or supporting applications in new computing architecture environments, using new and emerging technologies; OR (3) managing multidiscipline, high performance IT work teams. Five years’ experience developing, supporting, and operating B2B and B2C software as a service solutions with more than 50K monthly active users. Three years’ experience managing IT budgets, directly or indirectly managing a staff of 10 or more associates, developing product roadmaps in partnership with product managers, and recommending technology or tools investments to senior leadership. Two years’ experience leading, executing, and improving iterative Agile software delivery processes for teams using the Scrum framework, the Scaled Agile Framework, Objective and Key Results (OKRs) method, or similar methodology. Fully remote available. Must live within 100 miles of a Zelis office – Atlanta, GA; Morristown, NJ; Boston, MA; Plano, TX; St. Louis, MO; St. Petersburg, FL.
