What You Can Expect
As a Maintenance Assembler Technician your role will be a combination of maintenance related functions and production assembly on Caterpillar paving equipment. You will safely maintain, repair and install facility equipment such as fixtures, fans, welding equipment, racking systems, and other standard production related equipment. You can expect to perform PM’s (preventative maintenance) on a specific production line that you will be assigned to. Additionally, you can expect to troubleshoot, repair and replace hydraulic lines (plumbing) and electronic wiring, sensors and circuit boards. As an assembler float you will also perform heavy equipment assembly within the production assembly environment as needed throughout the year.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Responsible for putting safety first with a goal to prevent all injuries, occupational illnesses and safety incidents
Performs breakdown maintenance on production equipment. Includes, but not limited to paint booths, mechanical plumbing, diagnosing and repair/replacement of components attached to or part of the drive trains on equipment, mounting/installing of racks and production equipment.
Perform annual maintenance equipment certification/record-keeping on equipment as required.
Read schematics, estimate material and parts for jobs.
Electronically and manually maintain documentation for labor hour records, process work order and equipment documentation. Daily prioritize and confirm work orders using electronic systems. Document, communicate, and correct maintenance issues identified during breakdowns and PM activities.
Operate equipment including forklift, man lift, etc.
Take initiative to identify, document, communicate and correct problems related to equipment discrepancies and recommend solutions.
Coordinate and prioritize work to meet customer needs and production schedules.
Work and interact effectively in a team environment in alignment with our code of conduct and values in action.
Support team People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) initiatives and daily activities.
Assemble heavy machine products according to Engineering/Manufacturing prints and documentation utilizing assembly/mechanical tools, torque tools, metric units, hydraulics and electrical components.
Work with support groups including Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Inspection and others regarding process, results, safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
May work various shift and workday schedules to meet customer and team needs. You will work autonomously at times with limited supervision, and may perform other tasks as needed.
Successful candidates must bring (Basic Requirements):
- 5 years’ experience in mechanic or assembly field OR certified trade school/technical degree in a mechanical or manufacturing field, OR a combination of Military experience in a related mechanical job grade
Top candidates will bring the following skills and/or experience (Preferred):
Experience in troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair and preventative building and production equipment maintenance.
Ability to read schematics, prints, and write continuous improvement cards
Ability to weld and braze metals
Ability to operate material handling equipment
Ability to utilize computers for transactions and communication
Experience with reading and utilizing multi meters and basic electrical troubleshooting.
Operate hand tools, lathe, drill press, air tools, forklifts, and drivable lifts
Previous exposure in a team environment
Ability to use torque tools

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Exposure to welding fumes
Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices
Noise levels of 85db or greater
Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and hoists
Operate equipment including forklift, man lift, maintenance truck
Lift up to 35lbs frequently
Work at multiple heights
Climb on equipment, machines, ladders, man lifts and various step stools
Stand for a minimum of 8 hour shifts with minimal breaks
Work in environment with frequently changing temperatures and all weather conditions
Kneel, squat, and crawl on knees
Work in awkward positions, including forward reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting and forward head and rotation of neck.
Work in tight spaces
Repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling rotating
Use of fine motor skills
Work various shifts and workday schedules including nights and weekends
Use of maintenance hand tools
Required Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toed/metatarsal foot gear, and protective clothing and equipment including shock resistant gloves, arc flashing clothing, fall restraint harnesses, jackets, chaps, helmet, grinding shield, etc.
No relocation benefits are available.
