The Machinist 2 is an entry level position at Collins Aerospace for someone with a formal education in Machining/Tool Making, or two years’ experience in running Lathes and Mills. You will be responsible for learning the set-up and operation of the CNC Turning and CNC Milling centers, as well as manual mills and lathes. The shop is strictly Aerospace and is low volume/frequency on many of the parts with daily changeovers. Most jobs and 1-20 parts per run. You will use blueprints or design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product. You will do own set-up and inspection of each job.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Production Machining

  • Capable of set-ups, inspections, blueprint reading, and production processes.

  • Set up machines to perform operations within its capability by positioning, aligning, securing work, utilizing, and adapting appropriate tools.

  • Demonstrate the analytical skills that are necessary for machine adjustments and performing the machining process.

  • Demonstrate proper use of inspection equipment including indicators, micrometers, calipers, and surface plates.

  • Inspect and certify own work.

  • Work independent with minimal support for problem solving.

  • Upkeep of production equipment.

  • Perform daily, quarterly, annual PM on equipment.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a HS diploma with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 3 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder.

  • Ability to read prints and follow assembly instruction.

  • Must be independent and have good problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to effectively work in an environment requiring repetitive job responsibilities.

  • Ability to focus on safety and quality is extremely important.

  • Must be highly motivated and dedicated to exceeding customer expectations.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two-year machinist/tooling degree or 2 years CNC machining experience or a combination of experience and machining education.

  • 2+ years of CNC Mill/Lathe experience.

  • Mazak Mazatrol experience.

  • Production manufacturing experience.
