Summary:

This role seeks to provide direct support to the failure analysis team by performing both non-destructive and destructive analytical/inspection techniques in determining root cause of electronic defects and non-conformances, as defined by IPC or customer criteria. These techniques include but are not limited to Cross-Sectioning, SEM/EDX, FTIR, and Ion Chromatography.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Perform electrical isolation, cross sectional evaluation, mechanical, physical, or chemical analyses as required, and prepare technical reports.

  • Analyzes failed printed circuit boards and assemblies received from customers to determine potential yield problems and potential future fallout.

  • Utilize optical microscopes, video imaging/capture equipment, X-Ray, SEM/EDX (Scanning Electron Microscope), XRF and analytical techniques to document and define root cause of failures and failure mechanisms.

  • Accurately collect, analyze, and interpret test data to generate formal reports, recommend resolutions, improvements, changes, and modifications in equipment, processes, or procedures as necessary.

  • Conducts customer reviews to develop analytical approach and prepares cost estimates / quotations.

  • Provides assessment for capital equipment justifications, and outside services.

  • May mentor University research students with process development projects.

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.

  • 4+ years of experience with electronics manufacturing processes, materials, and yield improvements.

  • Knowledge of PCB fabrication processes is highly desirable.

  • Experience with analytical equipment preferred.

  • Experience with direct customer presentation and engagement.

  • The ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and in giving presentations.

    Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality:

  • Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem solving tools to continuously improve work processes.

    Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to access and manipulate various objects, tools or controls.

  • Ability to understand and interpret detailed documents and drawings, machine and computer monitors, analog and digital output devices.

  • Must be able to distinguish colors.

    Target Annual Base Pay: $99,800 - $107,600 + Robust Benefits
