Insight Global Lead System Controls Engineer (Mining) in Erie, Pennsylvania

Job Description

The Lead System Controls Engineer will develop, implement, and validate control systems for electric drive mining vehicles. These propulsion systems will include control of electrical power input from an alternator, catenary, batteries, or other sources that feed traction and auxiliary inverters used to drive propulsion motors and auxiliary loads. The propulsion control system also interfaces with other onboard and offboard vehicle systems. These Mining Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) have payload capacities ranging from 100 to 400 tons.

Responsibilities:

-Document system requirements and flow requirements to subsystem, component & software development teams.

-Evaluate detailed design for technical merit & adherence to sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

-Verify and validate control system

-Coordinate sub-system validation and reports for testing performed internally, at 3rd party sites, or on customer site.

-Support factory build of prototype & standard production systems.

Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments

Skills and Requirements

5-7+ years in Controls Engineering or Power Systems experience

Experience in model-based design engineering

Proficient with tools such as MatLab, Simulink, and/or MatrixX

Understanding of Alternators, Inverters, Machine Control, Power Conversion, Catenaries, and/or Batteries

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other Engineering discipline Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Power Electronics

Experience with electric propulsion development

Prior experience in Locomotive, Construction, or Mining equipment industry null
