Job Description

In this role the engineer will serve as site Quality representative for all new product development.  For projects following the R&D stage gate process this role would be responsible for participating on the project teams per the defined RACI expectations and aid from Concept Assessment through market launch in operations across casting, coating and finishing. This individual will also trend claim data and investigate Design related defects to scope future project work.   In addition, this role would be responsible for creating and tracking data for ECRs that may result from complex quality issues in Fairport’s process. 

Role Expectations

●     Support R&D projects as a core team member according to expectations

○     Act as key point of contact for development work updating primary stakeholders and driving action to enable successful launch with expected quality and scrap in operations at all steps of the value chain (this includes regional support)

●     Primary owner of Design related claims, trends and complex claim investigation 

●     Monitor effectiveness of product launches by tracking internal losses and external claims

●     Work with customers and tech leads in the field on complex design related issues to bring claims to closure

●     Conduct experimental coating runs to evaluate potential solutions to quality related issues both internal and external

●     Develop and implement predictive test methods that correlate to in field performance

●     Data Analysis including - control charting, capability analysis, T-tests,ANOVA

●     Scope and perform DOE work to determine root cause of complex product issues

●     Act as a gatekeeper for custom color mix and matches (LWL request system through FPT production)

●     Work with external suppliers of finished products to document specifications and hold them accountable to the application performance in the field

Qualifications

● 5+ years quality, process engineering  or R&D experience

●  Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science Preferred

●  Specific experience in Avery Dennison Graphics preferred

●  Strong verbal and written communication skills 

● Actively seeks knowledge, skills and experience in order to grow and develop

● Achieves goals with minimal direction

● Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving experience

● Demonstrated project management experience

● Must be able to actively contribute in a team based environment; encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal.

● Must have schedule flexibility to support trial work in a 24-7 environment

● Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office

● Familiar with NPD stage gate process

● Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred

● Would travel domestic around 20%
