Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Access Center ( TAC ) is comprised of 12 programs: Upward Bound (77), Upward Bound (17), Upward Bound (Math/Science), Educational Talent Search, Educational Opportunity Center, Bridge Scholars Program, Reach Out, Community For Excellence, Alliance Partnership program, CSU College Bound, the TRIO Priority 1 training grant, and the Lorenzo De Zavala Leadership Institute.

It is with this mission in mind that the Access Center was created.

The Access Center strives to develop the talents of those who have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education (first-generation, low-income, ethnically or racially diverse, and non-traditional age) during their pre-college processes by:

  • Nurturing college-bound aspirations

  • Increasing academic skills and motivations

  • Reaching out to Colorado’s historically under-served secondary students

  • Facilitating the college application enrollment, and student aid processes

  • Assisting in the transition to college and supporting retention efforts

Position Summary

The Student Success Program Coordinator is located in Fort Collins, CO within the Access Center at Colorado State University.

This is a fulltime professional position reporting directly to the Director of Student Success and Partner Engagement and plays a mission critical role in the Access Center’s efforts to expand equitable access to post-secondary education for historically excluded populations and support their successful graduation from post-secondary institutions, specifically Colorado State University.

The Student Success Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting and mentoring a student caseload of C4E partnership award recipients in areas of academic success, major exploration, and leadership development inclusive of first- year, continuing, and non-traditional students.

The Student Success Program Coordinator will serve as a member of the Community For Excellence (C4E) coordination team to assist with coordination of Fall and Spring scholar success events, partner engagement summits, and coordination of the Access Center C4E Scholar Contact representatives.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, liberal arts, behavioral sciences, social work, counseling, higher education administration, or related field from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of one year of professional experience providing one-on-one and group student mentoring to assist in academic success to and through graduation.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in education, liberal arts, behavioral sciences, social work, counseling, higher education administration, or related field from an accredited institution.

  • Demonstrated experience promoting educational access and working with underrepresented and under served populations, demonstrated experience with academic support programs, or other similar programs for low-income and first-generation student populations.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Demonstrated experience with student development and awareness of student transition issues, including a variety of factors that impact academic performance: social, academic, financial, personal factors.

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating student outreach, workshops, student recruitment, and building collaborative relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and implement programs with experiential learning strategies.

  • Demonstrated experience building collaborative relationships amongst communities, administrators, and /or faculty and staff.

  • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, presentation, writing and technical/ computer and prior experience with database entry.

  • Serve as the coordinator of student success programs within the Access Center and provide program support for the Community For Excellence External Partner relations coordination.

  • Develop and manage educational opportunity-related programs, including providing a variety of educational services such as college, career, financial aid, and post-secondary support services to support CSU student success and transition for first-generation students.

  • The Student Success Program Coordinator will serve as a member of the Community For Excellence coordination team to assist with Fall and Spring scholar success events, partner engagement summits, and facilitation of the Access Center C4E Scholar Contact representatives.

  • Provide ongoing and developmentally appropriate support and resource referrals to C4E student caseload in support of their successful retention and graduation from CSU .

  • Meet with student caseload regularly and provide strategic outreach and communication to students who may need additional support.

  • Provide appropriate referrals to university resources, including but not limited to Resources for Disabled students, Student Case Management, Student Financial Services, the Health Network, and other resources as needed.

  • Develop and utilize institutional and community resources and collaborative networks of support and services for students and partners.

  • Administer budget expenditures and paperwork in line with CSU policies and procedures.

  • Cultivate intentional and effective relationships with external partners and potential partners to develop new opportunities for student engagement.

  • Coordinate C4E partner school visit requests and special visits requests as needed.

  • Coordinate monthly meetings with Access Center scholar contact representatives to ensure appropriate levels of support, communication, and efficiency are being achieved in support of student success.

  • Occasionally travel off-campus to meet with admitted high school students to explain the C4E program and talk about the benefits of the program
