The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institute (SCI) at Mahanoy is looking for a highly motivated, detailed-oriented person with bookkeeping experience to join our team as an Accounting Assistant! DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will provide clerical and accounting support in the Inmate Accounting Section of the institution's Business Department. You will perform bookkeeping duties, including recording, reviewing, classifying, and processing inmate transactions and revenue-producing activities under the Inmate General Welfare Fund's (IGWF) Accounting Manual. You will prepare and issue release forms and notifications when inmates are released; refund prepaid phone time to the inmate's account; review lists of personal property and retrieve items to be disbursed to inmates upon release; and perform miscellaneous accounting transactions and reconciliations. Ideally, you will have working knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Excel and Gravity.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,003.00 (before taxes). Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting. Additional Requirements:
