Powell Industries, Inc. Production Worker in Houston, Texas

Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment. We are currently hiring a Production Worker at our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility. Employee assists Painters, Machine Operators, Welders, Material Handlers, and Leadperson in performance of their work. Employee works under close supervision. Schedule: Monday-Thursday 2:15pm-12:45am; OT as needed

Essential Responsibilities

  • Load unpainted metal parts onto the Paint Line.

  • Load copper bars and pipe onto the Bus Insulation Line Conveyor.

  • Unload painted metal parts from the Paint Line and properly attach the required part identification label.

  • Assist with daily and weekly preventative maintenance of the Paint Line & Bus Insulation Line equipment and facilities.

  • Move parts from one manufacturing operation to the next operation according to the part routing.

  • Remove finished parts from sheet metal skeletons.

  • Sort and stack parts by part number & job number combination.

  • Assemble kits of parts to be welded.

  • Assist machine operators with various tasks upon request.

  • On occasion, be required to perform labor task such as painting, grinding, sanding or general cleaning task as directed by your supervisor or leadperson.

  • Lifting of up to 50 lbs. consistently.

  • End of shift cleanup is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma preferred.

  • Ability to use computer software to control equipment or look-up company information.

  • Ability to use basic math, reading and writing skills to perform job function.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

  • Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to follow company operating procedures, safety rules and ISO requirements.

  • Ability to learn to read mechanical part or assembly drawings.

  • Ability to read and use a linear tape measure.

  • Ability to work independently or part of a small team and perform required tasks with little direct supervision.

  • Ability to maintain a clean work area by picking up trash and sweeping the floor.

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.

  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, etc.)

  • Working at heights usually no higher than 20 feet in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment and Fall Protection Equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders.

  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction.

  • Continuous standing and walking.

  • Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.

  • Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.

  • Frequent use of hand tools and power tools.
