Requisition Summary The Assistant Director of Product Planning is responsible for supervising the product planning department and overseeing the development of Kenworth's medium (greater than 2 years) and long-term (out to 10 years) vehicle, technology, and services plans. Routine activities include voice-of-customer research (market studies, customer interviews and customer councils) competitive benchmarking and ad hoc studies to support the management of product and service roadmaps, the annual capital plan, and the 5-year strategic plan. Project initiation processes and documents defined into PACCAR's Product Creation Process are key deliverables to also be managed. Product Planning also maintains a Kenworth forecast by truck model. This position reports to the Director of Product Planning and Strategy. Job Functions / Responsibilities The Assistant Director will manage and ensure that the product planning group is successful in the following: Conduct first-person and third-party customer immersion research to gather, organize and analyze information on trends in the market environment. Develop an understanding of, and communicate clearly on, the competitor's available products and related services. Develop and maintain strong communication with customers and dealer representatives. This will include travel to their business to understand their operating model and translate their current thinking and method of doing business into innovative product and services. Gather, identify, and prioritize customer attributes, and their opinion of Kenworth's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT). Think creatively about where the truck industry is going in the future and how Kenworth should be positioned to take advantage of the trends and emerging technologies. Create product "Book of Wishes" documents to represent the voice of the customer relative to new product and service recommendations. Create and maintain the Kenworth 1- 10 Year Product Plan Roadmaps Develop initial business case definition on position related products & services defined in the product plan. This will include facilitating the development of all capital and expense items as well as developing projected prices and volume impacts.
