Mississippi Employer Fiber Optics Premise Technician in LAUREL, Mississippi

  1. I.         POSITION SUMMARY

     

    Fiber Optic Premise Technician is an entry level position that will be assigned customer facing job functions related to the installation and maintenance of broadband services primarily as it relates to the FTTH network. This includes placing and splicing drop cables, mounting network interface devices, installation of fiber optic cable into the premise, activating all FTTH/VOIP equipment and devices, and setting up a local network inside residential or commercial premise with an end goal of providing maximum operating efficiency for the Association and DE Fastlink. The Fiber Optic Premise Technician will have the opportunity to apply technical expertise to a variety of situations by evaluating problems and implementing best solutions. 

     

    II.       REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

     

                   Reports to: Technical Services Supervisor

     

    III.      MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    A.        Install, activate, and troubleshoot all FTTH/VOIP equipment inside premise and train subscriber how to connect to and use properly.

     

    B.        Place, splice, and troubleshoot network interface device's as well as aerial and buried drop cable at and to the customer premise.

     

    C.        Monitor tier 2 ticketing system and respond quickly to address service outages.

     

    D.        Punctual for all service appointments and completes all service orders promptly and professionally.

     

    E.        Work closely with Customer Service Department to maintain an aggressive yet achievable home installation schedule.

     

    F.        Test drop fiber with OTDR and light meter to ensure integrity of fiber cable.

     

     

    G.       Respond in a friendly and courteous manner to all service requests.

     

    H.        Reconcile all issued parts and materials daily to ensure accurate material usage counts.

     

    I.          Maintain all tools, equipment, and vehicles issued by the Association.

     

    J.         Operate vehicle in accordance with all state laws, always abiding by the speed limit.

     

    K.        Track daily miles and work hours.

     

    L.         Provide detailed paperwork and documentation to ensure accurate record-keeping, billing, and inventory.

     

    M.       Work effectively in a team environment providing support to all team members.

     

    N.        Observe all safety rules.

This position is responsible for broadband service installs, terminating, splicing, documenting, and testing fiber optic cables with an end goal of providing maximum operating efficiency for the Association and DE Fastlink. The Fiber Optic Technician will have the opportunity to apply technical expertise to a variety of situations by evaluating problems and implementing best solutions.  REPORTING RELATIONSHIP 

               Reports to: Broadband Operations Manager **MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete installation of equipment in subscriber's home and train subscriber to use said equipment.**

Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation.

 

Works closely with Customer Service Department to maintain an aggressive yet achievable home installation schedule.

 

Installs, disconnects, reconnects, adds, changes, and troubleshoot Internet and Telephone connections/lines.

 

Respond in a friendly and ourteous manner to all service requests.

 

Coordinate fiber activities with electric lineman and other aerial communications linemen and other departments as necessary

 

Perform ring cuts on live fiber without affecting existing services

 

Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters

 

Find and perform maintenance on fiber lines during outages

 

Provides accurate equipment location, splicing and terminating records for the fiber database

 

Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment
