Here, you will make an impact by:Leading development of novel materials (electrocatalysts, electrodes, and assemblies thereof) used in current and emerging electrochemical energy conversion, energy storage, and electrosynthetic applications.Initiating new technology development projects, including identification or review of new and emerging opportunities, conducting deep technical and IP assessments, engaging with internal stakeholders and external partners, and determining business, technical, and manufacturing alignment with company objectives and requirements.Where appropriate, apply for external funding to accelerate prioritized development activities.Supporting commercialization activities, including customer engagement and support, technical service, and application engineering.Generating new intellectual property as warranted.Your Skills and ExpertiseTo set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:Masters degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.Three (3) years of experience with electrochemistry and/or electrocatalyst development in a private, public, government or military environment.Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:PhD degree in Electrochemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.Ten years of experience in the development of electrocatalysts used in electrochemical energy conversion, energy storage, and electrochemical manufacturing applications. Deep understanding of the fundamental and practical principles of advanced electrocatalyst design towards meeting application requirements for selectivity, activity, and stability.Five years of experience with electrochemical evaluation of membrane-based water electrolyzers and fuel cells, data analysis, and reporting.Deep expertise in relevant electrochemical characterization methods, including chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in liquid electrolyte and cell configurations.Three years of experience leading significant technology development projects and developing applications for external funding.Experience with thin films materials, fabrication methods, and utilization in electrocatalytic applications.Experience with usage of computational tools to advance catalyst development, including density functional theory modeling and emerging predictive computational catalyst discovery methods.Significant understanding and experience utilizing relevant catalyst physical and chemical characterization methods to accelerate development, including high resolution electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence, and high energy spectroscopic methods.Established record in generation of new intellectual property.Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written technical communication.Work location: Work Your Way Eligible (Employee choice to work remote, on site, or hybrid)Travel: May include up to 5% domestic and internationalRelocation Assistance: May be authorizedMust be legally authorized to work in c untry of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).Supporting Your Well-being3M offers many programs to help you live your best life both physically and financially. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
