Lab Research Chemist (12-month contract)

St. Paul, MN

$20.64

Volt has partnered with a growing manufacturing company in search of a Lab Chemist! The person hired for the position of Polymer Chemist will have the opportunity to work with the Electronics and Energy Group Lab on projects related to optical films for next-generation display technology. This person will develop skills and gain work experience in a chemical lab environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Designing a robust experimental methodology for evaluation of formulations.

  • Evaluating and assisting with the design and synthesis of new materials.

  • Performing microscopic, thermal, optical, mechanical, rheological and spectroscopic measurements on experimental samples.

  • Keeping accurate records in laboratory notebook of the measurements performed.

  • Communicating results of testing in both written and oral form in a concise and efficient manner.

  • Utilizing Microsoft Office and other software to process and present data.

Qualifications:

  • Completed a Bachelor of Science degree program from an accredited college or university in the field of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science or another research or engineering related discipline with an accredited university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidate has completed at least one semester of a Master of Science degree or has already obtained a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or another research or engineering-related discipline with an accredited university.

  • Proficiency with photopolymerizations and radiation-curable materials.

  • Overall cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

  • Good organizational skills and ability to communicate clearly in written form.

  • At least a semester of organic chemistry, or experience in an organic or polymer chemistry lab.

  • Experience with polymer characterization equipment.

  • Proficiency in Minitab, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
