Composite Technician

Nammo Defense Systems Inc., a defense contractor, manufactures and supports shoulder-fired systems; energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, medium & large caliber ammunitions, mortar ammunition; and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aero-structures.

Primary Responsibilities of a Composite Technician

• Assist in the development and optimization of the production of composite tubes

• Fabricates, cures carbon fiber composite tubes.

• Builds laminated assemblies in a filament winding operation, apply composite, plastic and metal parts and adhesives onto tools or molds.

• Troubleshoot equipment, monitor process parameters, adjust equipment settings as needed to obtain parts that meet customer drawings and internal requirements.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings

• Set up spray booths to apply etching and primer compound to tubes

• Load/unload winding machine mandrels into oven, run cure cycles

• Pull mandrels from composite structure (de-mold)

• Operate compression test machine to verify proof loads

• Run daily production quantities

• Recognize and report all operational variances as trained

• Ability to use a computer and database to download work instructions

• Basic knowledge in using precision measuring tools, i.e. micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, etc.

Required Experience & Skills for a Composite Technician

• High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required

• 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing and processing of advanced composite materials preferred

• Ability to interact and communicate as part of a highly functioning team

• Must be able to read, write and speak English

• Ability to obtain BATF approval to work with our products.
