RTX BBN Technologies, a noted high-tech research & development company, seeks a creative, organized, people-centered candidate to fill the role of Principal Engineer in our Physical Sciences & Systems business.

What you will do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • This position is for an experienced professional in systems engineering and technical management, who works independently, leads integrated systems programs and teams, provides inputs to integrated master schedules, facilitates the systems engineering design process, manages subcontractors and vendors, maintains progress reports, and anticipates problems. This is an on-site position, but offers the ability to work one day of the week remotely.

  • Work autonomously with limited oversight leading a high visibility integrated systems program by developing execution plans, schedules, and cost estimates for the effort under their purview.

  • Lead multidisciplinary staff of software, electrical, mechanical, controls, and test engineers and scientists in the development, production, and sustainment of mission critical systems.

  • Maintains continuous communication with internal and external customers via in-person meetings, phone calls, program review meetings, and technical progress reports.

  • Work closely with technical staff and supply chain to manage the Bill of Materials, vendors, and subcontractors.

  • Facilitate the risk management process by supporting Program Risk Review Boards, to identify and document risks, opportunities, and mitigation actions.

  • Oversee the requirements traceability and configuration management processes for program technical deliverables.

  • Oversee and participate in the creation and sustainment of a document registry including requirements documents, system design documentation, test plans, operator’s manuals, etc.

  • Candidates should expect that they may be required to travel to a BBN, RTX, teammate, or customer site for meetings or other business-related activities.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience.

  • Active US Government Secret clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • The ideal candidate will be organized and detail-oriented with the ability to efficiently handle complex program technical and management issues including system troubleshooting, schedule slip and risk mitigation, and resource allocation while enabling the engineering and test teams to focus on performance, quality, and delivery objectives.

  • Previous experience working within system development and production organizations.

  • Previous experience managing program design lifecycle including program requirements derivation, verification and validation, test planning, assembly and integration operations.

  • Subject matter expertise in one or multiple of the following disciplines is preferred: software, computer, electrical, mechanical, signal processing, or control systems engineering.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
