Providence St. Joseph Health Director - Risk Management in Mill Creek, Washington

Description THE ROLE Providence Clinical Network is seeking a Director to lead Risk Management across our Puget Sound region. Provides direction and leadership for all aspects of the reliable delivery of safe and effective care to our patients and that we respond with compassion, thoughtful analysis and patient-centered solutions when adverse events occur for the Providence Puget Sound region. Evaluates and implements clinical programs to mitigate risk, reduce errors, risk identification, risk control, risk investigations and risk transfer. Strategies and actions reflect organization goals and the quadruple aim, risk contract requirements, regulations, best practice standards and organization values. Fosters the development of best-in-class safety and risk support, using the CANDOR and high reliability frameworks and other contemporary processes and tools, analytics and data management for the region. Provides a continuous learning and just culture approach to the investigation and reconciliation of all patients safety events and patient feedback. In partnership with colleagues from PSJH, this role leads the tracking and effective settlement of claims and potential claims against medical staff and/or the organization. This role will help lead the Ambulatory Quality Division in collaboration with executive leaders, clinical operations leaders, experience leaders, safety leaders, and value based care leaders. This requires success leading and operating in a complex, matrixed organization, leading through influence and working in partnership with a diverse group of stakeholders, including colleagues in Nursing, Risk, Compliance, Quality Program Management, Campus Quality Program Management, Analytics, Project Management and the Safety Team, among others. Participates in appropriate committees, exercises independent judgement and discretion and takes actions as needed based on knowledge of all regulatory and organizational standards. Minimal supervision required. This role partners with the PSJH Risk infrastructure to coordinate the investigation and defense of all litigated liability claims. Ensures the collection of all information necessary to prepare a defense of a claim and approves defense postures or settlement values. This position works closely with the Executive team, Medical Directors and Operations leaders to align resources, ensure education and training, and measure outcomes of safe care delivery. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ensures patients and families experience best-in-class event response including disclosure programs and assisting in disclosure. Consults with combined Safety and Risk team, in partnership with other leaders in the Quality Division and Providence St. Joseph Health. Works in collaboration with Director of Quality & Safety for timely, thorough and accurate investigation of events and processing of electronic event reporting. In partnership with operational leaders, develops organizational capacity to respond to events, investigate and put in place solutions to prevent future events. Developed a collegial and effective working environment focused on the enablement of all caregivers and their development, leading to an outstanding work experience. Represents the Safety & Risk & Experience Departments in a positive and collegial manner at internal and external meetings. Ensures that the ambulatory event response system is best-in-class, easily satisfying CMS, DOH and other regulatory requirements. Works proactively to identify risk threats and to mitigate them. Oversees the investigation of incidents/accidents/events that could lead to financial loss, including professional liability, general liability and property.
