Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of University Housing, the Associate Director of Residence Life (Business Title: Associate Director of Residential Education) is a twelve (12) month, live-out professional position. The Associate Director of Residential Education directly supervises 3-4 Paraprofessional staff (Resident Educational Assistants) and serves as the advisor to up to 6 Student Housing Administrative Council executive board members. In addition, provides leadership to the Living Learning Communities ( LLC ) program, academic/retention initiatives, and social justice education within Residence Life and serves as the primary advisor to student housing governance group(s), coordinates unit-level leadership development programs, intentional scheduling, and implementation of the EBI Survey (Skyfactor), and all other necessary assessments for University Housing.

The Associate Director of Residential Education is responsible for partnering with the Associate Director of Residence Life on disseminating health & safety policies, procedures, and compliance in coordination with UWM Police Department, Milwaukee Fire Department, and University Housing facilities. The Associate Director of Residential Education works in collaboration to support departmental initiatives with both the facilities and business operation units, participates in the administrative on-call duty rotation, and serves on the University Housing Leadership Team.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants for this position must have or provide evidence of the following:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Student Development, Student Personnel, or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of post-Master’s Degree experience in a higher education residential community

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in facilitating Living Learning Communities, providing student advising, assisting with room assignments, and spearheading academic initiatives

  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally both orally and in writing. Ability to present information clearly and professionally one-on-one and in groups; ability to serve as a public face for the department within the University and to external audiences

  • Ability to prepare and present special projects with little or no supervision/oversight. Ability to meet deadlines and to take large complex projects and divide them into smaller achievable tasks organized into a plan. Strong, detail-oriented project management skills

  • Ability to make valid and reliable evaluation of information. Demonstrating attention to detail

    Preferred Qualifications

Highly qualified applicants for this position will also provide evidence of the following:

  • Independent and innovative self-starter who can display an ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with academic/retention initiatives

  • Minimum of 2 years experience advising residence hall community councils/associations

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with residence hall assessment programs (i.e. EBI , Benchmark, ACUHO -I)

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with a Living Learning Communities ( LLC ) program

    Target Salary Range $75,000 / year
