A Proficient Technical Systems Analyst is responsible for modifying or expanding computer information systems to improve production workflow or to serve new purposes.
Writes and executes unit testing for lower complexity programs and recommends technology solutions that satisfy clients’ needs. Will be expected to quickly learn different IT language and tools in order to design technical solutions.
Typical project scope would include small development or maintenance projects (single function, single application). Emphasis is on unit testing and coding.
Coordinate, with supervisor guidance, design phases for small development projects, identifying, tracking and resolving technical issues
May facilitate small group meetings for technical design and task implementation
Provide estimates on activities/tasks required to perform design, coding and unit testing, improving accuracy over time
Develop code and documents programs of simple to average complexity using different languages
Will be expected to quickly learn different IT language and tools in order to design technical solutions
Learn the use of the different techniques and tools (top-down, OO, Rational Rose) in order to design technical solutions that include component reusability, data sharing and security
Write unit test plans and executes unit testing for programs of simple to average complexity using different tools
Prepare detailed technical specifications in accordance with all Project Office objectives for PLC and documentation
Assist in completing technical documentation and training material
Organize and participate in walkthrough reviews of all technical specifications, programs and unit test plans
Provide implementation and post-implementation support, as necessary
Recommend technology solutions that satisfy sponsor/stakeholder needs continually exploring and assessing options for value-add for clients
Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
1-2 years proven work experience as a Technical Systems Analyst
2-5 years work experience assisting IT projects in the financial services industry
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of different programming languages (e.g. Cobol, JCL, Java, C, HTML, VB, Visual C++, C#, .NET )
Prior experience with single platforms and familiarity with others e.g. MVS, Internet, Client/Server, UNIX or Windows, Linux
User proficiency with different testing tools (E.g. Expediter, File-Aid), different design techniques (e.g. OO. Top-down, structured analysis, component-based design) and tools (e.g. Rational Rose, HPQC, other UNIT testing or functional testing tools)
Strong documentation skills
Analytical thinker, detailed oriented, with good problem solving skills
Organized with good time management skills
Can deal with ambiguity and manage change effectively
Comfortable in high pressure, deadline-oriented environment
Ability to adapt quickly; function independently when required
Creative thinker, breakthrough, innovative, ‘out of the box’ thinker
Team player, cooperative with good interpersonal skills
