Big Bend Community College TRiO Upward Bound Residence Hall Director in Moses Lake, Washington

Position Summary

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for  a Residence Hall Director position with the college's TRiO Upward Bound Summer Program The salary for this position is $5,280 for the 44 program days, June 20 through August 10, 2024. (A one-day training will be required prior to the start date.) The successful candidate must be available for the entire term of the summer program.  This position is not eligible for benefits. The TRiO Upward Bound program is a federally funded grant from the U.S. Department of Education for $581,576 which covers 100% of the program costs.  This year-round program provides academic support, college preparation, career awareness, and other support services to low-income and potential first-generation college students.  It is designed to help students become more successful in high school and prepare to enter and successfully complete postsecondary education.  The program works with the following four target high schools within Central Washington: Moses Lake, Warden, Othello, and Royal High School.   For six weeks, TRiO Upward Bound operates an intensive residential summer academy for 42-45 students on the BBCC campus.  Students participate in high school or college classes during the day and tutoring sessions during the evening including organized recreation and enrichment activities.  The program also offers day trips, tours, and weekend field trips designed to promote personal and social growth. Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC's main campus is located in the city of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. We are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and we serve approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000.   This position is open until filled. Essential Job Duties

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Residence Hall Director will:

Live in the residence hall and be responsible for supervising the residential services of TRiO Upward Bound, including direct supervision of students, 1 Activity Coordinator,   and 6 Resident Advisors.  

Responsible for the enforcement of program rules and development of hall staff work schedules & assignments, leading daily hall staff meetings, and co-managing the residence hall office.

Assist Program Director in week long orientation and training of residence hall staff.

Assist in implementing and enforcing program rules and disciplinary procedures.

Exemplify a positive & mature role model for the TRiO Upward Bound students.

Provide academic tutoring and personal guidance and mentorship to students.

Assure that the residence hall maintains an atmosphere conducive to study and leisure.

Work 6 days a week (including some weekends); daily work schedule varies based on program needs.

Provide supervision to residence hall staff & students at activities both on-and-off campus.
