Job title: Parks Maintenance Technician I- Weekend Shift\ \ Hiring Salary Range (DOE): \$17.90-\$20.51\ Position Salary Range: \$17.90-\$23.12\ \ Department: PARKS\ Job Status: Full Time\ FLSA Status: Non-Exempt\ Reports To: Assigned Supervisor\ Grade/Level: 14N\ Amount of Travel Required: Some\ Job Type: Regular\ Job Code: 8050\ Positions Supervised: Supervision may be exercised over Seasonal Maintenance Personnel.\ Work Schedule: Generally, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm Thursday through Sunday; however, a rotating schedule on weekends is required between 6:00 am 4:30 pm OR 10:00 am Dusk. Must be able to work flexible and varied hours due to changes in dusk throughout the year.

Join us in creating the legacy we will leave in our city, and the world around us.\ \ PURPOSE STATEMENT\ WHAT YOU WILL DO:\ Performs a variety of routine manual and semi-skilled turfgrass management, landscape construction, maintenance, and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility, including parks, pathways, right-of-way areas, and other city properties. May serve as the lead worker over an assigned maintenance crew; performs other duties as required or assigned. Manages weekend reservations for citizens using park shelters and special events. Cleans restrooms and reservation areas for public use.

Essential Functions Statement(s)\ Performs the full range of manual and semi-skilled turfgrass management, landscape construction, maintenance, and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility.\ Instructs or leads the work of an assigned maintenance crew and/or seasonal workers to ensure the safe and efficient completion of all work assignments.\ Maintains and repairs City parks, pathways, right-of-way areas, and other city properties.\ Maintains and repairs light and heavy equipment and maintenance tools and equipment, as necessary.\ Inspection and maintenance of park amenities such as playgrounds, drinking fountains, benches, shelters, restrooms, and sports courts/fields.\ Performs turfgrass management practices including mowing, irrigation installation and calibration, aeration, fertilization, and pesticide application.\ Maintains City pathways to comply with safety and regulations.\ Secures assigned work areas from hazards to ensure the safety of recreational participants, maintenance crews, and the general public, including flagging traffic.\ Maintains parks and City grounds in clean and safe conditions, including picking up trash, tree and shrub pruning, weeding, spraying, plowing, de-icing, and snow removal, and general maintenance, as necessary.\ Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned and attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.\ Install, operate, and troubleshoot irrigation systems including conventional and 2-wire controllers, valve repair and maintenance, head installation, cleaning, repair, and adjustment.\ Work closely with other City departments and/or civic organizations and community volunteers.\ Assists customers with locating specific locations in parks for private reservations including managing reservation time-blocks and special requests from the public.\ Manages customer relationships with citizens using public parks for parties, reunions, and/or large group special events. Includes clean ng restrooms, and picnic shelters and managing trash clean up.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE\ Some knowledge of basic principles and practices of turfgrass management, landscape construction, maintenance, and repair activities, including parks and irrigation systems.\ Some knowledge of proper maintenance of parks, cemeteries, recreation facilities, and landscaped areas including the safe and proper use of related chemicals and pesticides.\ Some knowledge of the safe and proper use of basic hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in construction, maintenance, repair, and landscaping work.
