Howmet Aerospace Quality Engineer in Niles, Ohio

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and establishes quality systems and procedures, quality performance trends, statistical plans, and continuous improvement initiatives specific to assigned customers/product. Works hands-in-hand with Operations and Process Engineering to ensure standardized work procedures are topical, concise, and effective.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of quality related policies and procedures based on corporate and government/customer requirements, as well as in conjunction with AS9100 and NADCAP requirements.

  • Reviews and helps maintain specification management system.

  • Interfaces and/or works closely with Quality Assurance, Inspection, Process Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and Shipping personnel on procedural issues involving methods, tooling, costs, and other areas involved in the control of product quality.

  • Participates in Material Review Board activities, failure analysis and corrective action investigations, and assists in the timely dispositioning and processing of nonconforming material.

  • Acts as liaison for the company in coordinating and resolving customer complaints and concerns, relative to quality performance, investigations, system audits, and corrective actions.

  • Participates as assigned on process improvement teams or other continuous improvement groups.

  • Responds to customer corrective action requests in a timely manner, by investigating and facilitating root cause analysis and identifying corrective/preventive measures to eliminate deficiencies. Coordinates team efforts to resolve issues and monitors trends.

  • Leads/Facilitates RCCA problem-solving sessions, initiates Corrective Action Requests and monitors follow-up for effective closure and elimination of identified deficiencies.

  • Prepares periodic and special reports on quality statistics and other related quality issues on assigned program(s) or product area(s).

  • Performs internal audits/surveys, where applicable, to assure compliance to specific quality/customer requirements and internal/external regulations/standards.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.

  • Prepares and hosts 2nd and 3rd-party audits

  • Assists with maintaining calibration records within management software, GAGEtrak

  • Provides training on quality procedures, protocols, documentation, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, Engineering discipline preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Quality environment .

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Product/Manufacturing

  • Experience in aerospace industry

Communication and Organization:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with various audiences (peers, executives, customers, external auditors).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Working knowledge of SAP; ETQ experience is a plus.

Skills:

  • Highly motivated; self-starter with the ability to work autonomously

  • Strong problem-solving abilities for identifying and resolving issues
