The Architecture and Design – Upscale is the team is responsible for Choice Hotels’ success in implementation of design of the Upscale and Upper Upscale tiers across the company’s 8 brands: Radisson Hotels, Radisson Blu, Radisson RED, Radisson Individuals, Radisson Collection, Park Plaza, Cambria, and Ascend Hotels. As a key member of our Architecture and Design - Upscale, you will be pivotal in shaping the aesthetic and functional standards of upscale brands, ensuring every design element contributes to a cohesive and distinguished guest experience. This role is pivotal to shaping the new hotels in Choice Hotels’ upscale portfolio.

Your Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Upscale Architectural Designers to ensure all design submissions, including FF&E specifications and concept boards, align with upscale brand standards and prototypes throughout all design review stages.

  • Supports the design of brand launches and the ongoing maintenance of existing prototypes, fostering strategic brand consistency. This role will collaborate closely with the Upscale Architectural Designers, Brand, Food & Beverage, and other disciplines during brand design processes.

  • Partners with procurement and product design teams to manage and source FF&E samples, ensuring designs are purchase-ready and meet interior design objectives.

  • Provides professional support and communication to franchisees, addressing inquiries related to product specifications and design elements.

  • Reviews model rooms for custom or semi-custom projects, assessing functionality, design standard compliance, quality, and operational effectiveness.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, or related field.

  • Minimum 2-5 years relevant work experience, experience in the hospitality industry is preferred.

  • Minimum 1 year of project management experience is preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of construction and prototype plans; furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) specifications; and interior design cost module.

  • Strong competency skills in customer service, decision-making, analysis and problem solving, priority setting and time management.

  • Must be flexible and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

  • Detail oriented and strong organizational ability.

  • High integrity and ability to work independently.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of time.

  • Strong knowledge and proficiency of computer software including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite , AutoCAD 2D, Revit, Sketchup, Bluebeam is required.

  • Ability to sketch, space plan, create plan diagrams and clear presentations with excellent graphic design skills is required.

  • Working knowledge of creating and reading FFE costs and working with procurement consultants is required.

  • Demonstrates key competencies to include Communicates Effectively, Collaborates, and Drives for Results.

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Director, Upscale Architecture and Design. You will have 6 peer teammates and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

Your Work Location

As our Upscale Interior Designer I, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.

Right now, our associates in corporate headquarters are working in a hybrid environment, up to 4 days per week in the office and virtually from your home office the remaining days. We provide flexibility and encourage ongoing communication with your leadership to establish expectations about your unique needs.
