Centrus Energy Environmental Waste Management Specialist (0019S) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Environmental/Waste Management Specialist provides support in the day-to-day activities regarding environmental compliance and waste management.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform periodic waste inspections to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and site permits and procedures.
  • Track site waste generation quantities and rates to adequately determine the generator status/type.
  • Coordinate waste shipments to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and site permits and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation and/or modification of waste management procedures and training documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual waste reports.
  • Assist in waste management vendor audits.
  • Maintain required waste management records to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and site permits and procedures.
  • Assist in the waste characterization process.
  • Perform periodic environmental assessments.
  • Perform periodic stormwater monitoring to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and site permits and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual environmental reports.
  • Assist in the preparation and submittal of environmental permit applications, renewals and modifications.
  • Assist in the preparation and/or modification of environmental compliance procedures and training documents.
  • Review program documents such as procedures, maintenance work packages, engineering design packages, and training to ensure compliance with environmental, waste storage and waste disposal requirements.
  • Assist in the review and interpretation of state and federal environmental and waste regulations for impact to operations.
  • Investigate non-compliance issues and suggest corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications - External

Education and Experience Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" level security clearance.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in Waste Management, Environmental Compliance, Chemical Engineering, Biological/Physical Sciences or related field.
    • Consideration will be given to individuals that are within their final semester of completing their degree with a recommendation from the educational institution/professor.
  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to generate reports, charts, spreadsheets, and presentations.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

This position will require a pre-employment background check and a pre-employment drug test.
