PeopleSoft ERP Business Systems Analyst

Job Location: Orange, CA

Position Purpose:

The Business System Analyst explores business processes and user needs, prepares detailed specifications from which programs are written, and maintains existing FSCM processes and interfaces. The BSA will analyze moderate to complex business problems and formulate solutions using subject matter expertise in Finance, Professional Services and FSCM. As a member of the information technology department, the role requires effective collaboration and communication with both technology and business associates.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Consult with the business and I.T. management to identify and document needs, objectives, current operational procedures and problems

  • Analyze business functions such as Finance, General Ledger, Asset Management and Cash Management.

  • Develop solution designs around business needs incorporating configurable solutions while minimizing custom development

  • Analyze, document, review, and receive approval for business functional and non-functional requirements

  • Conduct and complete fit/gap analysis

  • Write and maintain functional specifications for new and modified functions

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement plans to test business and functional processes during system development and quality assurance testing.

  • Work with the business to identify test scenarios and translate to specific test cases and corresponding data sets

  • Perform testing to ensure requirements are satisfied by developed/configured solution, and addressing any issues discovered with the development team

  • Track and document changes to functional and business specifications

  • Creates or assists others in the writing of user documentation, instructions, and procedures

  • Researches, resolves and documents post-implementation defects and enhancement requests

  • Prepare time and cost estimates for completing projects

  • Keeps abreast of new technologies to assess trends

  • Demonstrate system features, new tools and solution concepts as needed

  • Proactively identify new features and functions to improve business processes

  • Attend and participate (by providing status updates on requirements deliverables) in status meetings

  • Notify management of any issues or target date dependencies


  • Meet with the business or client lead representatives to understand their business needs

  • Collaborate with business to define business solutions as per the business goals and objectives

  • Collaborate with colleagues during requirements definition, design, and all other phases of the software development lifecycle

  • Support developers during the development and implementation phases

  • Communicate with their management to ascertain priorities, review documentation, and provide status

  • Leadership:

  • Act as the subject matter expert, for the business function and system

  • Act as a liaison to business community

  • Guide and advise less-experienced colleagues

  • Support the project management functions throughout the project lifecycle


  • Understand and conform with IT Controls and SOX Requirements

  • Maintain up-to-date requirements documentation

  • Request management approvals for all major system enhancements and communicate to all participating team members any change to the requirements after approval

Position Qualifications:

  • College degree in software or systems engineering, computer science, information systems management or the equivalent

  • Must have at least 7 years of experience with FSCM, including role in one full lifecycle implementation

  • 5+ years of experience as a Functional or Business Analyst experience

  • 5+ years of experience managing and supporting FSCM applications

  • Extensive functional experience and knowledge in General Ledger, Asset Management and Cash Management

  • FSCM 9.x experience & PeopleTools 8.5x experience

  • Advanced knowledge of finance business practices, business systems design, and process re-engineering

  • Proven ability to evaluate configuration options to leverage delivered functionality and tools.

  • Technical proficiency with SQL and PS/Query for reviewing data, troubleshooting and testing/validating source system data

  • Experience with Application Designer and reporting tools (Query, BI Publisher and nVision)

  • Experience with workcenters, dashboards, workflow, test framework, and pivot grids

  • Demonstrated proficiency in all phases of development including requirement gathering, analysis, design, development, testing using, deployment and post implementation support

  • Experience collaborating with Business users, PMO and/or scrum masters to understand the business requirements

  • Working knowledge of project management principles and techniques

  • Strong understanding of a PC, Windows environment

  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FSCM 9.2 experience with certification

  • PeopleTools 8.53+ experience with PeopleTools I/II training certification

  • Experience with Asset Management, General Ledger, Cash Management, Data Warehouse

  • Experience integrating with non- Applications

  • Experience with HP Quality Center

  • Project Management Certification

Professional Skills:

  • Ability to write functional requirements, use cases, and other analysis/design artifacts effectively (storyboards, screen prototypes, etc.)

  • Experience with interface and database design

  • Experience with the software development life cycle

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

  • Must be flexible and willing to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment

  • Staffing experience desirable

  • Be part of an on-call rotation
