Cabela's Design Engineer in Ozark, United States

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Design Engineer is responsible for manufacturing/design engineering related to White River Marine Group trailers. This position will be the vendor contact on parts currently in use and parts that are developed and will be the customer and dealer contact for technical questions about trailers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct Cross-Functional team meetings to discuss new/changes to designs/processes

  • Obtain necessary approvals for all trailer modifications and additions

  • Ensure fitment of all trailers for new boat models

  • Define all trailer manufacturing processes

  • Update/Maintain Engineering Design Standards

  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality to improve manufacturing processes

  • Provide drawings to tooling to create required fixtures/dies to create parts

  • Research new equipment / process which will allow more efficient manufacturing

  • Investigate and evaluate new products

  • Ensure trailers function as intended

  • Complete product comparisons for procurement

  • Review VOC/Warranty data and define/support projects to improve goals

  • Ensure all designs meet NHTSA requirements associated

  • Work with any department in White River Marine that require support

  • All other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferred but not required with exceptional experience.

  • Preferred Degree: BSME

  • Certificate(s) or License(s): Training in 3D CAD systems required.

  • Experience: 3 years – 2D/3D CAD, 3 years of experience in manufacturing environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY

  • Basic: Mechanical Engineering skills and understanding

  • Basic: Electronic wiring understanding

  • Experience as machinist / welder a plus

  • AS400 Experience a plus

  • MS Office products

  • CAD software (CATIA/Solid Works and Draftsight)

  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, sales, engineering, production, dealers and customers

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1 – 2 weeks per year

  • One National trailer manufacturing show each year (NATM - February)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regular computer work, and sitting

  • Occasional walking, standing, and lifting up to 50lbs

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT :

Performs duties within scope of general company policies, procedures, and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures, and practices.
