Job Highlights

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Chemical Operator to join our team in the Polyurethane Dispersion (PUD) unit of our batch operation plant. The successful candidate will play a vital role in achieving maximum productivity while meeting customer needs, all in strict compliance with safety, health, and environmental requirements.

This position requires a strong understanding of batch processes, strict adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work harmoniously in a unionized work environment. As a Chemical Operator, you will be responsible for reading and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhering to regulatory requirements, including OSHA, NJDEP, and other relevant regulations applicable to the position.

Requirements
  • Operates all process equipment and auxiliaries related to assigned department in a safe and efficient manner maximizing productivity and quality in regard to regulatory and administrative requirements.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and /or process problems and implements corrective action.
  • Initiates reports, work orders, safety notifications, etc., as required, and follows up on same to completion.
  • Conduct in-process testing (after appropriate training).
  • Perform basic math calculations to charge and weigh up raw materials.
  • Accurately measure, weigh, and mix chemicals according to precise formulations and batch sheets.
  • Maintains/conducts Daily and Month-End inventories.
  • Adheres to production and shipping schedules.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Update production records on Database, OEE, Windows Office Tools and SAP is preferable.
  • Computer skills preferred. SAP, DCS, Excel, Word
  • Ensures that instructions/information from the department head and previous shift are accurately and effectively communicated to the team.
  • Collaborate with the Shift Supervisor and other team members in troubleshooting, problem solving, and decision making to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Handle and store hazardous materials in strict accordance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Foster a positive and cooperative work environment in the union setting, supporting open communication and collaboration among team members.

Physical Requirements
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) as necessary for the role.
  • Climbs stairs and ladders: works from elevated platform/scaffolds, or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions, including with chemicals, while adhering to safety procedures.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in chemical operations or a related field is advantageous.
  • Proven experience as a Chemical Operator in a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of batch processes, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, such as batch sheets, process flow diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and data entry for maintaining detailed production records.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced batch operation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the capacity to respond effectively to operational challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a unionized work environment.
  • Willingness to work in rotating shifts, as per the union agreement, and be available for occasional overtime when required.
