Responsibilities

The Neuroscience ICU at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center is a 32 bed Neurosurgical / Neurological Intensive Care Unit and is part of the world renowned Barrow Neurological Institute. The Neuroscience ICU cares for patients to include subarachnoid hemorrhages, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord Injury, epilepsy, brain tumors, stroke and many other complex conditions. The Neuroscience ICU is dedicated to patients and committed to excellence and are trained to be clinical experts in their field. We have a very extensive training program and many opportunities to participate in unit and housewide teams as well as advanced training for specialty skills and certifications. The Neuroscience ICU is an excellent place to learn and grow both personally and professionally.

As a Charge Nurse at SJHMC, you'll oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. Your previous experience in acute care, LTC, or nursing homes adds tremendous value to our nursing team.

Every interaction is an opportunity to improve your understanding of a patient's needs, the needs of your nursing team, or the needs of your unit. You'll advocate for your fellow nurses as you support them in reaching their full potential, which aligns with your department's operational goals and objectives.

To thrive in this role, you need to be accountable and confident. You're an excellent communicator in 1:1 interactions and in front of groups. It's also important for you to be comfortable holding tough conversations, as you are responsible for the performance of your people and your unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to serve as leader and teammate

  • Ensure your direct reports and department are positioned to deliver the best care possible to our patients

  • High level of engagement with the floor- visibly connecting with nurses, patients, and families

  • Attend meetings with leadership to learn about new initiatives, areas for improvement, etc. and share that information with your team

  • Monitor productivity and efficiency of your department

  • Mentor people on your team. Share your knowledge and confidence with assistant nurse managers, charge nurses, and others

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associate’s Degree - ADN, Diploma or foreign equivalent.

  • Current AZ State RN license or compact RN license in good standing required.

  • American Heart Association BLS

Preferred:

  • Two years RN experience within applicable clinical specialty and/or Charge Nurse experience.

  • ACLS obtained within six months of hire into position.

  • Previous experience with personal computers.

Pay Range

$42.85 - $63.77 /hour
