UPMC Clinical Specialist-CAT in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Center for Assistaive Technology is looking for a full time Clinical Specialist to join their dedicated team!

Under the supervision of the Director, the full-time Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapist Clinical Specialist provides comprehensive assessment and intervention services with the goal of maximizing the patient's functional level of independence in the area of seating and mobility and mobility-related activities of daily living. The Clinical Specialist identifies and pursues the development of specialized clinical skills in the Seating and Mobility specialty of Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapy. The Clinical Specialist serves as a role model and resource for the Center for Assistive Technology by offering assistance to and sharing clinical information with all direct- and indirect-care staff. The Clinical Specialist will also serve as a clinical faculty liaison by working collaboratively with the University of Pittsburgh Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology to provide assistance in teaching (clinical education, classical teaching and/or continuing education) and in research related activities.

This role will work weekday, daylight shifts. Location will be Forbes Tower in Oakland.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in teaching activities (clinical education, classical teaching, and/or continuing education)

  • Make quality patient care and patient satisfaction the number one priority.

  • Adjusts personal style to work effectively with a variety of people in the work setting thereby maintains a willingness to work cooperatively to solve problems.

  • Demonstrates competency in the selection, administration, scoring, integration and interpretation of appropriate assessment tools.

  • Provides education/training to patients, families/caregivers, interdisciplinary team members and/or the community to share clinical knowledge and enhance quality of patient care and functional outcomes.

  • Conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and positive attitudes with patients, staff, medical staff & visitors.

  • Demonstrates the ability to establish priorities and perform assignments in the allotted time frames while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Recommends, orders and/or fabricates necessary patient equipment in consultation with patient, family and treatment team.

  • Participates in research related activities

  • Formulates a Letter of Medical Necessity consistent with assessment findings as well as the patient's needs, abilities, personal goals and projected outcomes after intervention as determined by the patient, family, and treatment team.

  • Seeks consultation from other therapists or uses resources to confirm and improve treatment procedures.

  • Schedules and implements treatment, elevates progress, modifies therapy goals, adjusts therapy setting and determines the frequency/termination of treatment as patient needs indicate.

  • Provides appropriate supervision and training of students, interns and observers as assigned.

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities according to the philosophy and standards of the UPMC Health System and the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute, embracing the system-wide core competencies.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary meetings to assist in the ongoing development and the coordination of AT services and devices.

  • Considers age, developmental level, gender, education, cultural background, socioeconomic, medical and functional status when providing assistive technology services.

  • Initiating and participating in performance improvement initiatives.

  • Completes required documentation within an appropriate time frame in accordance with the facility's and department's policies and procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

  • Efficiently manages assigned caseload by maintaining punctuality of therapy appointments, meeting set productivity goal, insuring quality coverage for patients during times of absence and completing patient documentation in a timely and accurate manner.

  • A minimum of a Master's degree from an approved college or university in the field of Physical or Occupational Therapy is required; however a DPT or DOT is preferred.

  • Prior clinical experience with Seating and Mobility or Assistive Technology is preferred.

  • Affiliation with RESNA and ATP Certification should be obtained, or be willing to be obtained, and be sustained throughout employment at the Center for Assistive Technology.

  • Must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be organized, flexible, and demonstrate good problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to work independently, as well as in a team setting, to handle multiple responsibilities.

  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years clinical experience in the field of Physical or Occupational Therapy preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Occupational Therapist (OT) OR Physical Therapist (PT)
