Microsoft Corporation Director of Asset Management in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft is looking for a Director of Asset Management to join the Energy Team within the Cloud Operations + Innovation Organization. The Director of Asset Management will report to the General Manager of Renewable and Carbon Free Energy, and Carbon Dioxide Removal (“CDR”). This position will be responsible for managing a team of Asset Managers focused on renewable energy and CDR. With more than 20 GWs of renewable energy under contract and a rapidly growing fleet of contracted CDR projects the scope and impact of leading this team is critical to meeting Microsoft’s Sustainability Goals.

In this role, you will manage a large portfolio of global renewable energy contracts. The successful candidate will have experience managing a highly productive team, vast knowledge of wholesale renewable energy contracts, fostering strategic commercial relationships, familiarity with all major global power markets, and demonstrated analytical skills through a proven ability to deliver results. Responsibilities

  • Manage a team focused on developing key commercial relationships with energy and CDR suppliers in a variety Global Markets

  • Responsible for growing the team to meet our expanding program needs, leading hiring discussions and decision-making

  • Monitor the progress of contracted assets under construction,ensure compliance with all contractual obligations, as well as support review and interpretation of renewable energy contracts and ensure vendor compliance

  • Proactively identify opportunities to reduce risk and ensure that contracts deliver in line with expectations to meet company goals

  • Manage the portfolio operations team that tracks environmental attribute certificate delivery/retirement in accordance with contract provisions and maintain supporting documentation for audit

  • Develop and implement a roadmap for process and system development required to track contract obligations including key milestones, environmental attribute delivery, forecasting and invoicing

  • Ensure compliance with relevant local regulatory requirements

  • Stay informed and communicate market, policy and regulatory changes that could impact contract performance

  • Track asset P&L and provide input for asset performance reporting to management

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate information is shared on a timely basis with legal, tax, accounting, and finance · Monitor contract settlements and implement tools for independent verification to ensure accurate invoices and timely payments

  • Provide support for contract negotiations with actionable feedback on vendor performance and portfolio risks and opportunities

  • Direct and support the development of a platform of analytical and management tools to optimize the renewable energy portfolio

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 12+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Doctorate in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years people management experience.

Sourcing Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
