Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

Our team is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join us to deliver on our collaborative work management charter to deliver and grow business through premium value. You will be responsible for leading an engineering team chartered to design, implement, and deploy premium features that directly contribute to revenue goals in addition to operating Project services that power premium work management experiences across Microsoft. You will be enabling our Discover-Try-Buy motions to the project business and use customer feedback to drive improvement and innovation in our products. A big part of your role is ensuring our engineering work is tightly bound to our growth priorities and objectives.

You will partner closely with leaders in product management, design, user research and marketing to deliver innovative and impactful solutions that reach millions of customers worldwide.  You will also get an opportunity to collaborate with teams inside Microsoft like Dataverse, Teams, and Office to bring to life collaborative work management features and experiences. Responsibilities

  • Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.

  • Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

  • Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).

  • Guides team and acts as an subject matter expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Leads product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.

Qualifications

Required Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,

  • OR Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
