Brief Role Description

The Systems Engineer will be accountable for providing expertise in the deployment and day-to-day operational support of all physical and virtual server infrastructure and executing to established standards for the maintenance and configuration in support of strategic business goals at Rehrig Pacific. This position reports to the Manager of Infrastructure and Security in the Information Security & IT group.

Accountabilities

  • Execute upon established standards and procedures to ensure that the physical, virtual, and cloud server infrastructure at Rehrig Pacific is ready and able to scale to meet the demands of the business: The Engineer will ensure that current systems operate at peak efficiency, meeting or exceeding uptime SLAs. The Engineer will also

  • Provide oversight for monitoring and configuration management tools, proactively responding to changing conditions to prevent system failures.

  • Manage users, computers, and associated policies through Windows Active Directory Services, Microsoft Intune, and related tools to ensure compliance with security policies and best practices regarding system use and health.

  • Manage the day-to-day operation and validation of all server backup systems.

  • Participate in the deployment (or redeployment) of physical, virtual, and cloud hosts as required and manage IaC via Terraform or Ansible for the maintenance of all deployed hosts.

  • Create and maintain effective documentation on systems architecture: The Engineer will create documentation on the data flow, systems architecture, logical configurations, and daily operation along with troubleshooting for all server infrastructure and maintain that documentation in an ongoing fashion to ensure all stakeholders have access to relevant and useful information to support their use of those systems.

  • Function as an escalation point for technical support and troubleshooting: The Engineer will be on call as a Tier 2 escalation point for system user support requests and will apply expertise for consulting and hands-on troubleshooting/problem resolution.

  • Coordinate support activities with external vendors where required for problem resolution.

General Responsibilities

  • Provide timely updates to management on open issues and projects.

  • Coordinate activities with Information Security and IT teams to ensure availability and security requirements are met consistently.

  • Maintain git repository with VMware, AWS, and Azure IaC (Infrastructure as code) configurations leveraging Terraform and Ansible.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field or equivalent in work experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of systems engineering or systems administration experience, with emphasis in AWS, Microsoft Azure, and hybrid cloud infrastructure

  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in at least 1 of the following: AWS VPC, EC2, RDS, VMware Administration, PKI and Certificate Services, Active Directory Domain/Forest Design and Administration, SCOM/SCCM

  • Demonstrated SME in IaC (Infrastructure as Code) leveraging Git, Terraform, Ansible is preferred

  • MCSE, MCSA, VCP, VCAP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or similar industry certification preferred.

  • Experience with JSON, YAML, PowerShell, Bash, or AWS Lambda scripting preferred.

  • Experience working cross-functionally in disparate geographies required.

  • Experience providing technical training to non-technical personnel preferred.

  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.
