FORT BEND COUNTY MUNICIPAL Field Lab Surveillance Technician in Richmond, Texas

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for collecting mosquito samples from the field for arbovirus testing. Provides general support for activities conducted in the Ultra-Low Volume Spray Operations performing technical operations. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in surveying for suitable trap sites; Obtain permission from both public and private entities for locating traps at suitable selected trap sites; Prepares all trapping material for daily surveillance operations. Assists testing new mosquito traps; Sets and retrieves mosquito traps from designated operational areas; Identifies mosquitoes from other insects during field surveys and collections; Completes daily logs on vehicle and equipment usage; Assists with repair and maintenance all field equipment; Assists with the avian surveillance. Processes mosquito samples collected from the trapping process; Replenish and rotate Gravid trap attractant (hay infusion) as requested; Secures CDC light trap attractant (CO2) as requested. During the recovery period, assists in other duties such as maintenance of application equipment and vehicles, building and ground maintenance, cleaning duties and field surveying, including used and abandoned tire retrieval throughout the community. Assists in technical and non-technical service duties in other areas of Division as needed. Other duties as assigned. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Knowledge of Insecticides preferred.

REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GED. Strong verbal skills and ability to interact and communicate effectively with other employees and the public. Ability to complete assigned tasks within tight deadlines, and the ability to prioritize own work; must be able to multitask and maintain dependability and reliability. Knowledge of record keeping procedures, spreadsheets, word processing. Valid Texas Drivers License. Required to obtain and maintain a Noncommercial Political Pesticide Applicator License within 2 months of employment.

SALARY RANGE: $17.60 - $22.00 hourly based on qualifications
