Job Description

Applications Engineer Materials Engineer

This individual is responsible for planning, executing, documenting, and conveying the results of customer applications to demonstrate laser technology and solutions. Producing stock laser material processing samples in accordance with established design and quality protocols. Supporting alpha testing of new products and accessories. Supporting goals and initiatives by demonstrating technology and solutions at seminars, trade shows, and events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute customer applications to demonstrate the value of laser materials processing solutions.

  • Review customer requirements for each application with the Applications Group Manager, channel partner, and customer.

  • Optimize laser system set-up and laser processing conditions to provide the best laser processing solution for each customer application.

  • Document results in written reports, supported by appropriate measurements, images and videos.

  • Effectively communicate the results to customers, channel partners and management and peers.

  • Support goals and initiatives by demonstrating technology and solutions with attendance and participation (including presentations) in corporate seminars, trade shows, and events both domestically and internationally.

  • Produce stock laser materials processing samples to demonstrate the laser cutting, engraving and marking for common materials.

  • Track sample inventory.

  • Order new materials as necessary.

  • Produce new samples as needed in accordance with established design and quality protocols.

  • Assist in the execution of Alpha Testing for new products and accessories as required for new product introduction. This will include both hardware and software related products.

  • Understand the performance objectives for the new product or accessory that is being introduced.

  • Execute testing according to schedule, and report results clearly and concisely.

  • Maintain all lab equipment and processes in accordance with standards and procedures.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned by the Applications Group Manager.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

  • Materials Science OR Mechanical Engineering

  • Knowledge of graphics software such as CorelDraw , Adobe Illustrator, SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

  • Experience with optical microscopy techniques and accompanying sample preparation methods.

  • Proven experience of technical report writing/reference sample and data management.
