Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a talented and passionate Head of Research to join our growing design and research studio. The Head of Research will have a significant impact on our business as they contribute to the design direction across all 200+ services. You will drive the research vision and strategy while leading a growing research team while collaborating with the design team, engineers, product managers, and executives throughout the product lifecycle.

You are a passionate, curious researcher with uncanny observational and analytical skills, an impressive ability to collaborate with other teams and designers, and a relentless determination to do what is right for Amazon's customers. In additional a strong foundation in qualitative research methods you will help to drive the experience assessment and quantitative insights used across AWS.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Seattle, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of proven success leading customer focused research projects with demonstrated impact

  • A BS or equivalent degree in psychology, cognitive science, Human Factors etc.

  • Hands-on experience with: ethnographic research, user testing, benchmarking, survey design, etc.

  • Behavioral research and analysis skills, (e.g., designing, conducting, and analyzing data from different kinds of research methodologies.)

  • A portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables (e.g.: study plans, reports).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree (e.g. MS in Human Factors, HCDE, or Cognitive Psychology).

  • Research experience in software products for enterprise or software developers.

  • Self-starter who possesses flexibility to work in a fast-changing environment and ambiguous situations.

  • Experience incorporating research with agile software development.

  • Ability to meet ambitious deadlines and deliver high-quality work on schedule, including quickly turning around study plans and reports.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.

  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and good business judgment.

  • Proven history of having worked across cross-functional teams and functions.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $216,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $322,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
