Our team is looking for self-motivated, confident, and passionate engineers to help us create advanced aircraft simulation and training devices and products. This Software Engineering position is within the Simulation Solutions & Services (SS&S) business area. SS&S develops and builds simulators and training systems for both military and commercial customers. Devices range in complexity from desktop training all the way up to high-fidelity weapon systems and full flight training systems, including full visual motion and simulator interoperability (HLA/DIS). This position is located onsite at our Sterling, VA site. Eligible for relocation.

What YOU will do:

  • Develops, codes, tests and debugs new software or enhancements to existing software.

  • Works with technical staff to understand and resolve software problems.

  • Responds to customer suggestions for improvements/enhancements.

  • Supports the understanding of programming technologies available to provide the most efficient means to implement the needed functionality.

  • Drives advancement of technical methods.

  • Plans for future program requirements to support business needs.

  • Drives agile processes and methodologies, including Development, Security and Operations (DEVSECOPS).

  • Individual job duties may vary.

    Education & Experience:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and a minimum (2) two years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Must be able to work onsite.

Skills you must have:

  • Advanced experience with C/C++

    Skills we value:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with employees at all levels in the organization, including ability to coach and review work of lower-level

  • Self-starter, able to work autonomously with limited oversight from manager 

  • Experience with Configuration Management tools (Git, svn, etc.)

  • Experience working with Agile, Kanban, SCRUM, or SAFe development methodologies.

  • Familiarity with the concepts of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) environment and tools (Jenkins, Bamboo)

  • Experience with Computer Network Protocols (TCP, UDP) and tools (Wireshark)

  • Experience with ARINC standards

  • Exposure to real-time, multi-threaded programming

  • Advanced knowledge of Integrated Development Environments (IDE) such as Visual Studio or Eclipse

  • Advanced knowledge of secure coding practices and tools (A&D STIG, static code analysis, etc.)

  • Experience with C#

  • Experience with WPF

  • Affinity towards DoD aviation and/or flight simulation industries

The salary range for this role is 70,000 USD - 142,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
