The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Day Camp Counselor Lead *to join our team! *

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. 

As a Day Camp Counselor Lead, you will be responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and support to the Summer Day Camp Coordinator and ensuring quality supervision and program execution. If hired, you will ensure the safety of all children at camp, while planning and leading group activities daily.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and lead weekly camp program for camp participants.
• Implement theme and character development activities into all camp programming.
• Plan, lead and assist group activities, transitions, time fillers, and songs.
• Assist in managing day to day operations.
• Create weekly calendar of activities for campers.
• Monitor group roster daily ensuring all campers are accounted for.
• Ensure parent communication cards are completed.
• Ensure daily and weekly camper awards are given.
• Monitor and coach performance of assigned camp staff.
• Regularly support and encourage staff, and assist program director with camp staff evaluations.

• Assist in supervision of day camp leaders.

   

Qualifications:

• Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations.
• Knowledge and skills in day camp program activities and related equipment set-up, and the ability to instruct participants in age appropriate techniques.

• Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

   

Wage: $16.53 to $18.53 per hour, depending on qualifications

Hours: Full-Time, Seasonal

Location: Gordon Family YMCA, Sumner, WA* *
