Job Title: Quality Engineer

Location: Troy, AL

Classification: Exempt

Grade: Salary

Department: Quality Control

Reports To: Quality Manager

SUMMARY/ OBJECTIVE

The Quality Engineer is a key factory staff member responsible for developing and maintaining programs, processes and metrics that support Quality Assurance program within Kimber Manufacturing. The Quality Engineer will work in concert with cross-functional teams and other departments to provide support in achieving quality goals defined and established by upper management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Quality Engineer will:

  • Support the initiatives of the Quality Assurance department

  • Supply chain support in the development and maintenance of a supplier rating system and supplier evaluation

  • Develop and provide statistical analysis of quality performance, problems and recommend solutions to both legacy and new products

  • Support the implementation of a Statistical Process Control environment

  • Support continuous improvement activities geared towards elimination of processes variation, nonconformities and cost reduction

  • Perform internal ISO audits of the processes and activities throughout the organization and prepares respective audit reports.

  • Provide monthly/daily reports and analysis as requested

  • Develop control plans, check lists, and inspection procedures for new and existing products

  • Train CNC personnel on inspection techniques

  • Develop gauging requirements for new and existing products

  • Active participation in Material Review Board (MRB) activities

  • All other tasks are assigned by department management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrable track record over a minimum of 5 years of successfully working in a fast paced manufacturing environment

  • Familiarity of Six Sigma

  • Display ISO knowledge

  • Strong project management experience

  • Cross functional team builder/player with high levels of professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm

  • Must have senior management potential/interest

  • Knowledge of Microsoft office (word and excel) and Minitab

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quality, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret quality performance reports and create solutions. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as rating systems and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Required knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word using MS Windows platform. Other MS Office program experience and use of Minitab is preferred.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require some travel.

Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends. Ability to work as part of a team, including all related departments/plants or independently as required to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction.

This position requires compliance with ITAR requirement. Must be a “U.S. Person” (per ITAR 120.15) and are required to show proof substantiating this upon being hired.
