Salary Grade: NC11 Salary Range: $ 42,464.00-$74,313.00

The Photogrammetry Unit acquires aerial imagery and generates geospatial information products used for transportation planning, design, and construction. The unit also partners with other government agencies for statewide orthophotography and aerial LiDAR elevation data programs serving as NCDOT's subject matter experts for aerial surveying.

The Photogrammetry Unit has an opening for an Engineering Technician III to provide advanced level technical geomatics engineering work supporting engineers in the Production Squads.

We are looking for an employee who can provide:

  • Advanced level technical support for the planning and production of photogrammetric mapping for functional design, preliminary design, final design.

  • Digital mission support files, film image scanning, digital image plotting, image processing.

  • Calculation of construction earthwork pay quantities.

    In this role you will:

  • Operate photogrammetric mapping hardware and software to stereoscopically view digital aerial imagery and compile planimetric mapping and terrain elevation data.

  • Review consultant and in-house produced planimetric mapping, terrain elevation data, and orthoimagery, and identify discrepancies to engineering staff.

  • Generate orthoimagery from individual frame imagery using photogrammetric mapping software programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of the concepts, practices, and theories of professional transportation and geomatics engineering used in photogrammetry, surveying, lidar, and GIS as related to highway location, design, and construction.

  • Basic knowledge and skill in the use and operation of photogrammetric mapping software and equipment used to generate planimetric mapping, terrain elevation data, and orthoimagery.

  • Experience reviewing planimetric mapping, terrain elevation data, and orthoimagery and identifying discrepancies to engineering staff.

  • Experience expressing technical facts and maintaining records and work-specific notes in a clear, concise, and organized manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to perceive overlapping aerial imagery stereoscopically in three dimensions and interpret planimetric and terrain features relatively correct.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
