What You Can Expect

The Environmental Health and Safety Associate Director:

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements EHSS management systems to provide high levels of EHSS performance and regulatory compliance for the applicable Zimmer Biomet site(s).

  • Responsible for partnering with site leadership to instill a culture that engages all levels of the organization and embeds EHSS as standard work.

  • Facilitates and promotes the integration of environmental sustainability into Operations.

  • Implements the highest EHSS standards and best practices while ensuring compliance and alignment with all federal, state, and local laws at both existing and new facilities.

NOTE: This position is Partially Remote. Successful candidates must live in or relocate to the Warsaw, IN area.

How You'll Create Impact

  • Develops and provides oversight for EHSS Policy and EHSS Management System procedures. Drives consistent practices across the applicable site(s).

  • Advises management and works with site EHSS staff to ensure compliance with applicable regulations including OSHA, EPA, DOT in the U.S. and company EHSS requirements.

  • Evaluates significant accident and hazard investigations and recommends corrective actions.

  • Maintains effective internal EHSS audit program. Leverages 3rd party oversight and collaboration as necessary to ensure site level compliance.

  • Monitors delivery of effective EHSS related training for the applicable site(s) and facilitates development of EHSS training programs as appropriate.

  • Supports legal department with Workers Compensation and Property insurance risk control and processing activities.

  • Provides guidance regarding major facility renovations and process modifications and moves to ensure that EHSS issues are addressed.

  • Establishes requirements for necessary EHSS related documentation and coordinates the collection and distribution of EHSS metric data and safety alerts to drive performance improvement.

  • Promotes EHSS programs through internal publications, encourages consideration of EHSS impact during decision making processes and integration of EHS responsibilities into daily activities.

  • Develops and promotes environmental sustainability strategy. Collaborates with 3rd parties to manage and track best practices and new regulation tied to ESG initiatives.

  • Monitors, evaluates, and provides direction in relation to Environmental and Sustainability regulations and guidance including but not limited to TCFD, CSRD, CBAM, and CDP.

  • Maintains and improves as necessary the collection of Environmental and Sustainability data for the company. Assists the applicable site(s) with data collection, verification, and authentication. Ensures audit-ready assimilation of these data points and associated documentation.

  • Supports the integration of BCP principles into Operations functions in conjunction with site BCP team leaders.

  • Maintains EHSS section of company external internet web page and coordinates responses to external queries about our EHSS Management System.

  • Coordinates EHSS due diligence for potential acquisitions and divestitures and manages EHSS integration of acquisitions in a timely manner.

Your Background

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Safety/Environmental Management or equivalent is required; a Master’s degree in Safety/Environmental Management or equivalent is preferred.

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive EHSS experience within a regulated environment, combined with a minimum of 6 years’ experience managing EHSS programs in a manufacturing plant environment is required

  • Previous experience developing and implementing Safety and Environmental Programs for manufacturing sites is required.

  • Previous experience leading EHSS function at a manufacturing site is required.

  • Previous experience managing relationships with regulatory bodies and insurance carriers is required.
