County of Chester Communications Technician (Updated) in West Chester, Pennsylvania
Summary / Main Purpose of Job:
Support the Mission of the Department of Emergency Services (DES); to promote and assist in providing safety and security to Chester County citizens so they can work, live, and grow in a healthy and safe community.
The Communications Technician is responsible for ensuring that the emergency communications infrastructure supporting the Chester County Department of Emergency Services remains at an extremely high state of readiness and reliability. This position will also ensure that First Responder radio equipment operates at peak performance at all times.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Accountabilities:
- Work as part of the Department's technical team to ensure continual operation of the Department's critical 9-1-1 related systems.
- Provide monitoring, evaluation, and coordinate maintenance of all electrical and HVAC components and equipment at the remote tower site locations.
- Maintain remote radio sites with the support of outside vendors and contractors.

``` - Monitor, evaluate, and approve the performance of vendors and contractors through direct supervision and physical checks.

``` - Supervise vendor and contractor performance of regular preventive maintenance for the Department's critical 9-1-1 related systems.

Qualifications / Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least two years of job-related experience in a similar position working with radio technology.

``` - Strong verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, or equivalent related training and experience.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of electrical and HVAC components and equipment to maintain the performance and maintenance of equipment at Tower sites.
