Volt has partnered with a leader in the medical devices industry in Menlo Park to find their next Sr. Failure Analysis Engineer.
The Senior Failure Analysis Engineer will provide timely, thorough and accurate root-cause analysis of the functional electrical and mechanical characteristics of the contact hearing device to determine the cause of failure.
The position requires hands-on microscope and micro-manipulation skills and experience to identify and report findings and a thorough background knowledge of various metallic and non-metallic materials and various adhesives as well as electro-mechanisms, photonics and electromagnetic devices.
This position is part of R&D engineering group and additional activities will include support of new product development, especially as it relates to development of verification, validation, environmental and accelerated stress testing (HALT and HASS).
Analyze field failures to understand the failure mechanism and root cause.
Work with the cross-functional team to take field failures from root cause identification through to corrective action.
Document field issues in detail to support root cause analysis. Create management reports based on findings.
Understand the manufacturing process and close gaps that can result in customer failures.
Establish optimized root cause failure analysis techniques and processes.
Work with R&D engineers on validation and reliability testing of new products.
Management of FA schedules and updates.
Tracking and reporting of RMA/FA metrics.
The selected candidate should have:
BS or higher in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field with 5+ years of professional experience.
Solid understanding of and experience in applying problem-solving tools including root cause analysis, statistical tools and processes, and design of experiments.
Demonstrated experience evaluating, qualifying and managing failure analysis to ensure timely, complete and thorough analysis.
Must have excellent micro-manipulation manual hand skills to handle and dissect extremely delicate miniature assemblies under a microscope.
Must be able to operate (or learn to operate) various types of test equipment including laser doppler vibrometers, multimeters, computer-based test systems, microbalances and a variety of custom test equipment.
Must be able to develop verification, validation, environmental and accelerated stress testing (HALT and HASS) for new product development.
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
