The Senior Program Manager - Microbiology for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for directing all phases of development programs from initial business case to transfer into sustaining operations. As a leader of a cross-functional team, this position holds responsibility of overseeing the product development process for key, strategic programs within the Microbiology medical device project portfolio. They will also support portfolio analysis and prioritization of projects in the pipeline, both proposed and ongoing, and the dynamic resource allocation process across functions.

This position is part of the Microbiology Operating Company nested within Beckman Coulter located in West Sacramento and will be ON-SITE. At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.

You will be a part of the Program Management Office and report to the Sr Manager of Portfolio & Program Management for Microbiology responsible for successfully balancing the scope / quality / timeliness triad of superior Program Management and driving teams to succeed, or have the courage to change directions appropriately, as the facts present themselves. This leader will also understand and articulating complex scientific, interpersonal, regulatory, and business issues, thus leading, and motivating by example, teaching and coaching. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Manage budget, schedule, resources, and performance of the program along with achievement of QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) metrics. Make or facilitate project trade-off decisions while identifying and driving countermeasures in instances when project is overdue or exceeding budget.

  • Maintain continuous alignment of program scope with strategic business objectives and possesses sophisticated skills in finance, leadership, communication, influence, cross-cultural awareness, influence, and conflict resolution.

  • Work cross-functionally and collaborate frequently with Research and Development, Operations, Supply Chain/Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, and Marketing; additionally, working cross-site/time zones will be equally important in achieving maximum impact.

  • Routinely communicate project goals, status, requirements, gaps, and countermeasures to the Business Unit Product Planning Group.

  • Empower by example, mentor, and develop team members to assure common understanding of the development process and project goals.

  • Strategize with Business Unit management to define, support, and implement functional strategies that drive innovation and growth as well as process improvements that support product development critical initiatives and Key Performance Indicators.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Engineering, Business, Management or a related field with preference for 14+ years of proven experience or a master’s degree with preference for 12+ years of experience. MBA is a significant plus.

  • Work experience should include a preference of 12+ years in program/project management with proven track record leading system and/or IVD assay projects.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Portfolio Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent experience.

  • Strong motivational leadership skills and the ability to influence others without direct authority.

  • Ability to travel (domestic and internationally)-likely 5-10% of time.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • ISO and FDA regulated environment

  • Danaher Business System/Lean/Kaizen

  • Managing projects with outside development partners

The salary range for this role is $160,000-$175,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
