System One Software Controls Engineer in York, Pennsylvania

This is a 100% onsite, direct hire (permanent) role offering a competitive salary and benefits package.

Position Summary:

Analyze machinery and extrusion specifications and performance requirements for new and/or existing machinery and, based on this, develop and implement appropriate control system solutions for both new machinery and for machinery in the field at customer locations.

Essential Responsibilities and Priorities:

  • Apply machine control technology to new and existing equipment. Provide electrical engineering design services and assist with the creation of conceptual designs and specifications for new projects.

  • Participate in control system design activities by developing and implementing HMI and soft-PLC modifications and enhancements.

  • Program logical machine functions with IEC61131 programming tools and design HMI interfaces with graphical development tools.

  • Create schematics, detail drawings, assemblies, sub-assemblies, BOM’s and panel layouts, using AutoCAD, and perform required analysis to ensure the satisfaction of all project specifications needed for the procurement, manufacture and assembly of components.

  • Support installation and/or commissioning of new and retrofit equipment.

  • Provide technical support of machinery as needed, including service calls, troubleshooting and problem solving. Utilize remote connection tools to provide technical support and guidance to successfully fulfill customer service requests.

  • Enter, update, and maintain service information within the database including repairs and service calls.

  • Work collaboratively with all engineering disciplines and field service personnel to ensure successful completion of projects.

  • Ensure that all engineering documentation is released in a timely manner to meet the requirements of the project schedule and budget.

  • Work with the Sales Department in determining the viability of proposed retrofits to existing equipment.

  • Provide input and guidance for overall control system development initiatives based on customer feedback, retrofit implementation, and field service experience.

  • Work closely with the VP of Engineering to help prioritize control system development initiatives.

  • Provide technical support to all departments during procurement, assembly, testing and final acceptance of equipment.

  • Visit customer sites and evaluate machinery for retrofits and upgrades.

  • Assist the Technical Documentation department in the preparation of all drawings, specifications and specific operating procedures required in properly supporting product in the field.

    Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience.

    Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of machine control design experience preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment.

    Essential Skills, Behaviors:

  • Knowledge of plastics process technology desirable, but not required.

  • Strong software design experience, including:

  • Demonstrated understanding of standard machine programming languages (IEC61131) including ladder, structured text, and function block.

  • PC-based control experience with Beckhoff is a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience with HMI design and development.

  • Experience with Indusoft is a plus.

  • Ability to design schematics and electrical panels utilizing AutoCAD Electrical (ACE) 2016 and/or AutoCAD 2016

  • Strong understanding of Electro-mechanical systems including hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Excellent technical communication skills, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Email.
